The Festival of Lights in Berlin is usually that time of year you have to get your winter coat out because it is absolutely freezing. This year, with mild temperatures, you’d think it would’ve been an extra treat. Plus, for once we didn’t even go on that last crowded day.
However, the lights somehow missed to impress. Of course, there were us grown-ups wondering if it had been somehow bigger in last years but in the end, it was the kids who absolutely refused to stay, cause those lights were the most boring thing they had ever seen. (True quote.)
Children can be in awe seeing a Christmas tree light up. They are not caught up yet in our bigger, better, faster, more world. Makes you wonder, what went wrong here. All that is left is the sad realization, that we didn’t take a single decent photo. At least that seems reliable.

What a shame. When we lived in Eindhoven, they had an annual light festival that was little more than some pretty light designs on the lampposts and you could cycle about and see them all. Simpler times! Now it’s a full on Glow Festival with light installations and animated sequences on buildings. We happened to be there a couple of years ago and drove around trying to find it. Nothing! In retrospect, we probably needed to be right in the pedestrianised centre. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t even dark enough when we left; just too impatient!
For some reason, the simpler versions seem more fun. They light up a big botanical garden here each years, no fuss, no crazy installations but really beautiful. All in life seems to scream at us to downsize 😉

Is this also when you observe Oktoberfest? When exactly is it in the month of October? I know it as a beer festival in Germany. We have a German resto here in my Canadian neighborhood–called The Great Bavarian—and they are celebrating Oktoberfest all month long.
Oktoberfest is really a Bavarian phenomenon; just in the last years it finally swapped properly to Berlin. (People up north are not too keen on southern culture. Works both ways.) Don’t ask me why but it is traditionally from September to early Oktober. Somehow your version sounds like more fun 😉
