Eurovision 2020 Au Revoir

Let’s say farewell to Eurovision 2020. My better half kept pointing out rather carefully, there may be the possibility of cancelling the Eurovision Song Contest due to corona.

By the middle of the week this news was finally official. The Grand Prix de la Chanson has entertained (more or less) many a people since 1956. So, thanks to COVID-19 the jubilee 65th competition has been cancelled.

Why was Eurovision 2020 cancelled?

While it seems like a sensible decision, due to recent restrictions, the European Broadcasting Union had no choice but to cancel the competition. Even if they had held it without spectators, it would not have been possible to put on a show on the big stage without having too many people involved. Add travel restrictions to the mix and the spirit of the celebration that Eurovision is, makes for no coronation this year.

We’ll be watching the clips anyways and will host our own little Eurovision 2020; lock down version. Hey, on the bright side, we don’t have to wait until May. So far, Russia is one of my huge favorites. Enjoy!

  1. Bit of a family tradition here to watch Eurovision – since childhood days for me. Will miss it this year, but absolutely better everything is stopped or delayed to halt the virus spread.

    1. Me so sad! No one has even watched the great entry from Russia yet. You are right, it already has changed. Please stay well, too x
