It is creativity month and today, I would like to share a hanging shelf project from our post-furniture period. If you dropped by here and there, you may know that I’m a big fan of recycling and a great bargain.
When we moved into our new place in Berlin, we found a whole bunch of fun things in the basement and some withered planks just seemed to call for a DIY project! Living in half the space now, sometimes our apartment seems a lot like a shoe box and we started utilizing the walls rather quickly…
First of all, the nicest 80’s veneer was sawed in half. Since the wood was a bit crooked in itself, I went with a rough-looking string; hey, it all adds to the Charme.
If you are using nicer wood, maybe invest in some decent twine. Add a hook and you’re good to go.
You will have to fiddle around with the string for a while to get it all even. Put the planks between two chairs and roughly work out the required length before you get on that latter; your arms will thank you. This version requires no drilling the wood.
Cross the string underneath the plank and tie a hell of a knot and you’re already ready to decorate! Due to the hook, this construction is quiet stable and you can use it as a proper shelf. For the change in your pockets, in under two hours you can put this hanging shelf together completely by yourself. It looks a little bit different throughout the day, depending on the light, and is really easy to build.
