The Holy and the Ivy

Bucko & Champs – The Holy and the Ivy

The holly and the ivy

if they come up in your yard

then go and get the Roundup

and hit the mongrels hard

The feral pig and the cane toad

have a right to exist

but they don’t fit our ecology

and make awful Christmas gifts

The rabbit is a dreadful pest

and introduced of course

but it makes a bonzer Christmas dish

with gravy and plum sauce

The privet and the lantana

are an absolute eyesore

and whoever introduced them

has a lot to answer for

The banksia and bottlebrush

koala and emu

they are honest Aussie Diggers

they’re the only ones true blue

The holly and the ivy

if they come up in your yard

then go and get the Roundup

and hit the mongrels hard

  1. This is funny I’ll have to take a note for next Christmas, we need more Aussie Christmas songs and poems rather than standing in 35′ heat singing about snow!

    1. It really is strange! Look for ‘Fair Dinkum Christmas’. I had a Scholastic edition that came with a free CD. Be warned though if you have kids; it’s not that funny if it’s on for weeks… ๐Ÿ˜‰
