99 Luftballons — Nena
Nena’s 99 Luftballons must be one of the best songs of the 80’s. The original version of this anti war song tells a story of what can go all wrong when wrong generals are in charge. (Not that this could happen today, could it?) After a 99 year long war, the ending of the song knows no winners. Unfortunately, the English version 99 Red Balloons has not been translated closely, leaving it a bit banal (and somewhat clunky). Rumors go, the band was not satisfied with the result and Nena never performed the English version on stage. Either way, 99 Luftballons hit number one in plenty of charts; including America, Australia, Germany, Japan and many, many more …
Enjoy and have a peaceful week.

In den frühen 80ern war ich fast jeden Abend bei meinem Stamm-Griechen. Der Neffe vom Chef hat ständig 99 Luftballons in der Juke-Box gedrückt, das hat mich wahnsinnig gemacht.
