Creative thinking requires just one thing: contemplation. This means getting beyond the distractions of social media; getting beyond the need to fill up your empty time, between work and taking care of family and friends, with TV, or drinking or eating out too many times in one week. Contemplation requires a form of relaxed focus. And focus is in short supply nowadays with so much vying for our attention.
I’m concerned with rebellion. Not destructive rebellion but creative rebellion.
John S. Couch

Today’s quote is taken from the first chapter of The Art of Creative Rebellion: How to champion creativity, change culture and save your soul by John S. Couch.
I am really keen to get my hands on this book! Has anybody read it already? Rumors go, Couch held a talk about creativity and people were so keen on what he had to share, that he just ended up writing a whole book. It seems so easy for some, doesn’t it?
Have a creative week. Maybe make time for some contemplation …

I like Rebellion. Camus’ main antidote to Absurd.
Absurd may be the color of this year! I loved this quote becuase it is hard to find time to just be when there is always stuff happening … Carpe diem 😉
Carpe diem… Of course. Was that Horatius? I have an old book by him. In Latin! Let me leaf through if I can find the quote…
Bon week-end Freundin.
Oh boy, you’re fit! Horace or Robin Williams …

“They’re not that different from you, are they? Same haircuts. Full of hormones, just like you. Invincible, just like you feel. The world is their oyster. They believe they’re destined for great things, just like many of you, their eyes are full of hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? Because, you see gentlemen, these boys are now fertilizing daffodils. But if you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in. Listen, you hear it? – – Carpe – – hear it? – – Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
The dead poet society? One of his great movies. Such a shame that he chose to go…
We have a phrase that goes “it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there” – I don’t know if you have a similar expression in German? Bloggers already have that element of creativity and hopefully don’t lose it with the many items vying for our attention – these days it is extremely difficult to have a clear head.
Funny if I think about it, I’m not sure if we have a similar saying?!
How about “rat race” – that is a similar expression to say the world is a rough place and not meaning the weather, but the state of affairs. (We could use that expression a lot here.) 🙂
Hi Linda, in German we like to say life is not a pony farm. As in, it cannot always be nice and kind and fluffy.
As a fun fact, there’s also a version that sais life is not a Hasselhoff (whatever that means …)
Hmm – I’ve never heard the reference to a pony farm. And haven’t I seen David Hasselhoff on your site in the past (speaking of Hasselhoff)?
You know how they say the Germans are responsible for him having a career at all 😉 we just love our Hoff …
Please lend your voice to end police brutality in my country #SARSMustEnd. Racial or not, police brutality is wrong on all shores across the world. Just like George Floyd or any other killings by the police. Those we put in charge of our safety have no right to be the reason we die. All forms of #SarsMustEndNow, I refuse to pull my own trigger. Please follow my webpage sejaypages.wordpress.com or follow @sejaypages on facebook and instagram. like share repost. Lend us your voice today. Thank you
When I force myself to contemplate it doesn’t always work for me. For me, strangely enough, it’s not the external distractions that affect me. It’s the internal ones.
That may not be so strange if you ask around …
I love to think and cocoon. I’m an introvert. I wish I could type as fast as the ideas are flowing when they finally flood in.
You put this nicely! Sometimes I just talk and talk and then I realize what I was thinking … I can never type as fast as I would like to … Maybe I am more an extroverted introvert. It’s odd to pick sides 😉
Contemplation…the word is almost as beautiful as the results can be 🔥🤩
It does roll nicely of your tongue 😉
