No, it’s a bit stragic. Most people I know had at least one bike stolen … With my better half, someone stole his seat, then waited to get a new one and next morning the whole bike was gone. Another friend had a van following him, went to the bank quickly and his (super expensive) bike was gone. Berlin is a place for tough cookies 😉
Looks like it is. Isn’t that a shame though? I remember living in Holland as a child, and discovering the freedom or riding my bike everywhere. Of course we had locks but never had any problem then.

Maybe I should do a post on locks 😉 Sometimes you see these old rusty bikes and the lock is worth a fortune!

Cool post. Funny to see these bikes chained to posts and left like monuments. I cycle everywhere and always worry about parts going missing when I chain it up. On my way to work a couple of weeks back I saw an old bike that had been dug out of a pit by construction workers – rusted to hell and back. Wished I’d snapped a pic now after seeing this post.
Thank you! If I had a few months, I could probably fill a whole coffee table book with them. You are right, there seems to be something monumental to them. Did you see the vintage toy post? It was dedicated to you 😉
Please… more photos of old bikes 🙂
I’m just catching up on all my stuff in my reader so will look forward to your vintage toy post v much! Dedicated to me? Wow thank you. Exciting! 😃😍😎 BRB!
Of picturesque bikes and such!
My bike is so on it’s last legs / wheels it breaks my heart to see those …
But it does have character!
I think of them as insect carapaces that are disintegrating …. we have so many chained to posts here in NYC.
I always wonder about the stories though …
It has a lot of rust though
I wonder why the owners of the bicycles would leave the poor things abandoned in the streets.
Sometimes I think people jsut can’t be bothered to sell them for 30 bugs, but I’m really not sure. It’s a sad sight
Traurige Fotos!
Ich frage mich immer, wo die alle herkommen… Außerdem brauche ich echt ein neues Fahrrad. Lustig, wie sich der Blog manchmal unterbewusst füllt 😉
I like the “pickin’s” left and I really liked your caption: “Berliners are nice like that and only take what they need.”
Challenging. I would have thought bikes were safe in Berlin…
