Harries does have a point here. I could just not bring myself to put text on the Tretchikoff masterpiece cc

Come to think about it; Balenese Girl (1959) would go well with my desk … And this is how stuff is slowly crawling into your life …

Have a lovely start to your week. May it be happy and productive.

  1. Back in the sixties, my neighbour had the green-faced Tretchikoff Chinese Girl or something similar above the fireplace. It gave me the heebie-jeebies, especially as that room was off limits and always unlit. Creepy!

    1. I love his work but I remember many art works popular in my childhood (that would now be considered kitsch) that used to creep me out!

      1. All those awful paintings and statuettes of clowns that are now turning up in secondhand shops! I don’t remember them first time round. Maybe it was only a Dutch thing. And loads of that stuff was obviously made to put in the baby’s room. Shudder!

      2. Don’t get me started 😉 Vermeer was my worst test ever (!) at uni and I still have nightmares from that … Kitsch is not a German thing …

      3. Have you ever seen Van Gogh’s Aardappeleters (The Potato Eaters)? Could me to think of it, those people don’t need much makeup to turn them into horror clowns. 🤡

    1. Great ones! You seem like a walking encyclopedia. I always wanted to dive in to kitschy art but was intimidated by copy right … With all cc options available now, I’ll so look into this! 🙂

      1. You used to be able to pick up those 50s and 60s prints for a song but sadly they are just too fashionable these days. When the wheel turns again, maybe I should buy one 😉

      2. One of my friends has this most awesome GDR painting with a whole bunch of red flags but she refuses to sell it to me! You find a whole bunch of fun stuff on the flea markets (when open) but for the real gems you have to dig deep …

      3. Sounds great!!! I guess the original stuff must still be out there but there are just so many fakes now of the old “motivational’ posters of the GDR and USSR 🙁
